Devices send data over MQTT or HTTP with a per-device token. Everything is stored as time-series history you can pull at any time.

Alarm rules check each device against its thresholds, run automations, and can send commands back to actuators in the field.

Data is pushed to the dashboard as it arrives, with no page refresh. The numbers on screen move as things happen in the field.
