Eight things to ask before choosing a platform

Open protocols, not vendor lock-in

Confirm the platform accepts MQTT, HTTP/REST, Modbus, and ONVIF. A platform that only accepts its own hardware holds you hostage when prices rise.

Dashboards your own team can change

Operations staff should be able to arrange widgets without waiting on the vendor. Otherwise every small change becomes a billable project.

Clear data retention

Trend analysis and year-on-year comparison are impossible if old data is purged. Ask how long raw data is kept, not just aggregates.

Automation, not just charts

IoT pays off when the system acts: shutting down a pump, raising an alarm, opening a ticket. Charts alone save nothing.
